Peter’s Denial of the Christ

Dear New Church of Phoenix members and friends,

Easter is fast approaching, so let us prepare our hearts and minds for this holy season of the Lord’s resurrection.

This Sunday, I would like to invite you to explore with me something unique that happened around the Lord’s arrestation and crucifixion. A betrayal. In fact, Peter’s betrayal and denial of the Lord.

Here is what Peter said to the Lord in Matthew 26:

Then Jesus said to them, “All of you will be made to stumble because of Me this night, for it is written:

‘I will strike the Shepherd,

And the sheep of the flock will be scattered.’

But after I have been raised, I will go before you to Galilee.”

Peter answered and said to Him, “Even if all are made to stumble because of You, I will never be made to stumble.”

Jesus said to him, “Assuredly, I say to you that this night, before the rooster crows, you will deny Me three times.”

Peter said to Him, “Even if I have to die with You, I will not deny You!”

And so said all the disciples.

Have you been in this kind of a conversation before? Have you ever sworn that

This message has to do with the regrets and sadness we feel when we say we would never do something, and yet find ourselves doing the same exact thing we swore we will never do.

It also has to do with forgiveness, and reconnecting with God.

Mistakes and disappointments will happen, but what we do afterward is what determines our future conduct.

Let’s see what the example of Peter denying the Lord Jesus 3 times can teach us.

This is a perfect time to realign with our true inner self. It is time to self-examine our spiritual integrity, so we can embrace a new life.

What would you have done, had you been in Peter’s shoes?

Connect with us this Sunday.
